Strathpine Centre Cooking Stage

The Strathpine Centre Cooking Stage is for foodies from all walks of life. Fans will be awash in delectable aromas as culinary experts create masterpieces right before their eyes. In 2017, we welcome celebrity chefs Matt Sinclair and Huey to What’s Cooking in the Gardens?

Matt Sinclair

Matt Sinclair burst onto our screens in Masterchef Australia’s 8th series, and became a firm favourite from the outset. With his easy-going style, sense of humour and charm, he has made himself a household name. Matt grew up in the Sydney shire of Sutherland, and as he puts it, has ‘great memories of family life there’. Matt’s passion for food began at an early age in the kitchen of his great grandmother, Elsie. Matt credits Elsie, and his grandmother Elva, with inspiring his desire to pursue a culinary career – an inspiration that came full circle in 2014, when Matt catered for his grandmother’s 80th birthday.

Huey

Iain “Huey” Hewitson has been a chef/restaurateur for over 40 years. Since arriving in Australia from New Zealand in 1971, he has owned and operated many highly rated establishments. For over 25 years, Iain has been a fixture on national TV with “Healthy, Wealthy & Wise”, “A Cook’s Journey”, “Huey’s TV Dinner”, “Never Trust a Skinny Cook”, “Huey’s Cooking Adventures” and his “Huey’s Kitchen”, which aired for 11 seasons, where it attracted over 1.7 million viewers weekly. As well, he has written nine cookbooks – with “Huey’s Greatest Hits” winning the prestigious Gourmand World Cookbook Award for “Best Book by a Television Chef”. He has also had significant experience as a MC, host and guest speaker and, of course, has also conducted many cooking demos (obviously in a light hearted manner).
